Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a part-time technology transactions attorney for engagement through the firm’s contract attorney and alternative staffing program, DWTSurge. This contract attorney position will work with the firm’s Technology, Communications, Privacy & Security practice group to support merchandising and licensing work for a large institutional client.
This contract position will support the firm’s marquee client with inbound video game licensing and merchandising agreements. The selected attorney may work remotely but should be prepared to support a distributed team with primarily West Coast business hours.
The selected attorney will handle a high volume of brand letter, licensing, and merchandising agreements by primarily reviewing and approving amendments, appendices, and addendums to existing license agreements. This role is client facing and requires a high-level of commitment to excellent client service. Attorneys should be able to work independently and exercise good judgement, but should also collaborate easily with various business stakeholders, other lawyers, and support staff to meet objectives within short deadlines.
This contract position offers the flexibility of part-time remote work. We anticipate the role will offer 10-15 hours per week, however we cannot guarantee a minimum hours of work per week. The engagement is for an initial 6-month contract term, but we anticipate the work to remain relatively steady and there is a high possibility of renewal of the contract position for successful candidates. We are looking for attorneys interested in establishing a long-term working relationship with the Firm.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- 2+ years of transactional legal experience, with a focus on technology transactions and commercial agreements at a mid-sized or large law firm and/or with large institutional clients .
- Residency and active bar admission in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NY, OK, OR, PA, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WDC. Attorneys must be barred in the states where they reside.
- Attorneys barred and based in AK, CA, IL, NY, OR, VA WA, or WDC are strongly preferred.
- Experience reviewing brand letters, licensing or merchandising agreements.
- Familiarity and/or related experience with video game or similar IP merchandising, movie tie-ins, and licensing.
- Ability to independently review and approve amendments, appendices, and addendums to existing license agreements, brand letters, and merchandising agreements.
- Ability to manage review and approval requests efficiently to meet deadlines and ensure turnaround times are minimal.
- Availability to work 10-15 hours a week for the duration of the contract.
- Flexibility if hours fluctuate week to week, and flexibility to potentially increase hours as needed.
- Strong interest in supporting a large technology client and adhering to the client’s preferred practices and processes
- Ability to work remotely.
- High-level of responsiveness and client service abilities.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision and direction.
Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT’s flexible attorney program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This role is not benefitted. Salary Range
The hourly range for this position in CA, DC, NY, and WA is $80 to $100 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
